We have recently secured a three month internship for a student on our International Commercial Law LLM for the next academic year.
The internship is for three months (May to July). in the Brussels office of major US international law firm O'Melveny & Myers-with a £2500 scholarship attached. The internship will be won on the basis of an assessment of first term papers and an interview.
I would be interested to know whether any other LLM programme includes such internships. The point is with this programme a student can develop an intensive knowledge of competition law academically and get some serious practical experience all in the same year. I would also be interested in knowing from students how interested they would be in this LLM plus internship option. If there is a lot of interest I would definitively look at securing more internships in the future.

Would this be open to part-time students as well?
Posted May 27, 2006 15:34
In principle yes, but it would be problematic. Any part-time student would have to be able to take two courses in the Autumn term (normally they would take one). Also if they won the internship they would have to be free to work in Brussels for three months-which presumably being part-time would be difficult.

For an opportunity like the one you're offering... I think most students would find a way to make it work. I know I would!

I have been asked some further details online and offline about the internship. As a result I publish below the agreed press release on this internship

Major International Law Firm OMelveny & Myers is offering a three month Antitrust Internship in its Brussels office for an LLM student specialising in antitrust Law at City Law School in academic year 2006/2007. The internship will run from the beginning May to the end of July. To support the student in Brussels during his/her internship OMM will provide a scholarship of £2500. City Law School will provide an automatic extension to completion of the LLM dissertation of two months.
