Question for applying

adam81

hello all,

As i was looking through the websites of universities that i was interested in applying to, i noticed that most of them asked for transcripts, and references; however, none of them asked for personal statements.

Are personal statements mandatory to certain universities, or is mandatory for all?

thank you very much

I can't say for all universities, but UCL, LSE, KCL, QM, Oxford, Cambridge, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Nottingham and Dundee (the universities I applied to) all require personal statements (maybe under some other name, but with the same purpose). And may I add that the personal statement is probably the most important document of all... that's where you should really pore over...

The personal statement will often be part of the online application so not necessarily asked for as a separate document.

Just a different viewpoint but honestly for uk universities, I don't think the personal statement actually matters that much. What matters is pure grades from my experience.

Well, when I applied it was all online, I had to have a reference from a tutor and a personal statement form myself.

The tutor had to supply reference anyway for all students, and I just uploaded my personal statement and grades, work experience etc.

Grades are important, but statement is about why you are suited to the course, suppose its like if they asked you the questions in interview
