post LLm

Dear friends,

I have confirmed offers from few UK univs. alongwith scholarships. I am a qualified lawyer from India and willing to take up practise in IP later in life.

I want to know
1. how much LLM would help me in my career pursuits?
2. Exactly what kind of jobs can I expect after completing my LLM.

These details would help me a lot in my career planning

Thanks in advance

There are more than a few options available after doing an IP LL.M, but they are also dependent on any number of variables. However, people from the University of Edinburgh LL.M Innovation, Technology and the Law, which has a significant focus on IP Law have gone on to:

1) Continue practice in a law firm, but not in the same job
2) Worked in their own law firm
3) Set up a "business consultancy" advising on marketing, IP, IT, patents and associated issues
4) Moved countries and took a PhD and also did some teaching (now a fulltime lecturer)
5) Moved in-house with the finance sector
6) Continued on to become a patent attorney

There are a lot of variables to be taken into account about your own academic background, your grades, the type of LL.M programme you complete, your previous professional experience etc.. but the above might give you some ideas.

If you applied to the University of Edinburgh, I'll maybe see you in September. Good luck.
