For graduate studies in Law, Magdalen has 13 places and New has 4 places. It is said, however, that Magdalen is harder to get into.
Question: for GRADUATE law (the BCL), which one is harder to get into?!? Magdalen with 13 places? or New with 4?
Thanks,
Steve

They are equally as difficult to get into. This is because you apply centrally to the law faculty who will decide the application. The colleges have no say on whether an application will be sucessful.
However, when you apply you put down your first and second choices of college. If you are sucessful it is then down to the colleges to decide whether to accept you. So I guess if magdelen has less places available it will be a little more difficult to get into. Note that you are guaranteed 'a' place if your application is sucessful.

Thanks for answering. Magdalen has more places actually (13), that's the thing. So it's probably easier to get into then, if I've understood correctly. The only thing was that everybody's saying that Magdalen is more difficult generally, which doesn't make sense...

Say the BCL lets in 100 applicants and 80 of those put down Magdelan and 2 put down New as their college choice, thus Magdalen despite having many more places is harder to get into. It happens in Cambridge at places like Trinity and Johns though not only are they popular they also only let in 1 or 2 students a year to do the LLM.
