Hi, is anybody in the UK? Another topic to discuss - the heaviest snow of all times (since 1991)........
Oxford BCL - how many people apply?

Geez, 700 is a lot! Do you think that all 700 applicants have first class honours? Or would some apply anyway without?
As one ex admission committee member of the BCL, Professor Gardner expressed in www.thestudentroom.co.uk, all applicants for the BCL have first class honours.

"The report also shows that more students are applying for postgraduate studies, with Cambridge seeing a 13% rise in applications. Oxford has seen an 18% rise in applications, Birmingham a 24% rise and Warwick an 8% rise. "
- the article specifically mentions law

I think this applies more to UK and US, which have suffered the hardest due to the crisis. It remains to be seen what the trends are for international students.

Do you think the article means there has been an increase in applicants from the UK? I took it to mean there has been an 18% increase in applications to Oxford generally. Either way, it still affects our chances - unless of course they have a quota system for different regions.
Just reread the article and it's not terribly clear. Above these stats are references to "national figures" - but then these figures are stated generally. Who would know?

I think the quota system applies and regional distribution of seats occurs. So who can say?
Anyways, if all Cambridge law graduates were to apply, it wont mean all seats would go to them.

But assuming that the sudden increase in application is true, does that mean that there is an influx of 1st Class Honours?

It means that all the hell has broken down on us... that everyone with that invaluable and treasured First has proped up from some or the other hidden corner of the world... that everyone has overnight written and published that all important piece of scholarly work... that all those hitherto highly sought after employees have left their moutnwatering jobs because of an hidden fear psychosis that has suddenly gripped the whole world though it has been 5 years in the making.... that moot courts and essay competitions have been won overnight....
It means that forces that be have conspired to wean away from us any distant chance of an offer from Oxbridge and that we are forever doomed to live a desolute life in a remote corner of the universe, devoid of all rights to any of the great parameters that define, determine and produce success....!!!

No! Negative thoughts attract negative things! It's (-) + (-) = (-) rather than (-) x (-) = (+)

All right..
Its just a shield to keep the bad results away. And it works as it will this time too.
Hope for the best.
