Oxford BCL Funding????

westlaw786

Firstly, congratulations to all those who have been accepted on places to further their study whether by LLM and otherwise.

I have recently been offered a place at oxford for the bcl. However, though i am overjoyed at this offer i have one major problem; that of funding. Does anyone know how funding for this course may be obtained; my understanding is that the figure for the one year course is close to twenty thousand GBP.

Any of you with experience at obtaining funding and sources of funding and how one should approach potential funding sources would be greatly appreciated.

Once again good luck to all who read this post and may you be blessed with good fortune and good times.

There are three streams of funding: external; university; college.
My understanding is that the university is considering everyone who ticked the funding box on their application for scholarships (ie: Clarendon Fund) on Monday, 26 March. I imagines the colleges have their own, opaque schedule. When I applied for the BCL two years ago I heard from my College at the end of April.

This is a common story. Just hang in there - Oxford and your selected colleged will consider you for internal funding. It may be too late to try external funding. Don't worry, i feel your pain. I just got external funding out of the blue and did not apply due to my lack of success with getting a major scholarship.

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE BCL OFFER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Flygirl, I haven't heard anything yet. What funding are you are talking about exactly? The funding sources indicated on the application form? (which would be Schechter European or something in my case) I did send in my application for the Arts and Humanities Research Council though, so hope that works. All in all, my impression is that securing sufficient DPhil funding is not very easy. I am applying for the Weisenfeld scholarship and some of the others that are due by the end of June. Anyway, if no funding, I will probably stay in the US for a doctorate or go wherever they fund me. Well good luck everybody- hope to see you all in Ox next year!

I am not sure what funding, they just said in my email "funding decisions will be made on..."
I presume they mean the Clarendon Fund.

My email did not mention that. But Clarendon doesnt apply to me- as I am an EU citizen. Hope you get good news on the Clarendon (or any scholarship for that matter) soon though!

I contacted the faculty in relation to AHRC funding. Apparently AHRC funding decisions will be made tomorrow - even though the form had to be in by Monday.

How many scatchard awards do they disburse?

@ Mila - why did you decide upon Oxford for your doctorate? I am currently deciding between Cambridge and Oxford. My supervisors are comparable, I have the same funding at both (at this stage), I prefer the town of Oxford but Cambridge seems like a friendlier, more centralized faculty with greater attention given to grad students (doctoral candidates get their own room and desk in the library whereas at Oxford you get zero space). I am thinking there is no right answer at this stage but would be interested in your thoughts...
