ow to obtain a certificate of good standing

Hi,
I am an Advocate from India. I have got my Sanad in 2008 from Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa.
I am interested in pursuing one of the law courses in the UK. One of the main document requirements for my concern course is that I need to obtain a certificate of good standing from the Bar Association where I am enrolled.
Since I am currently in the UK, I am uable to find out how to obtain a Certificate of good standing from the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa.
Please suggest me, incase anyone reading this is aware of the procedure.
Thank you so much!

I can't say I know the procedure for the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa, but from experience (I did this when I qualified in Ireland), you are really just asking for an official document (their letterhead / certificate paper, signed / sealed etc.) showing that:
1. You are a qualified advocate (and the date of qualification)
2. Your professional body hasn't taken disciplinary action against you
3. They know of no other reasons why you are not a 'fit and proper' person.

They must know about it - it's quite common, certainly for re-qualification into the UK from other common law jurisdictions. I confess I've not seen universities ask for it though - but if they do, then you can't be the only person to have requested one from the Bar Council.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for replying. I just got my certificate done from the Bar Council of Maharastra and Goa.
I needed it for the QLTS course. The SRA issues a certificate of eligibility to take the QLTS Exams and require this certificate from the Bar Council.
Once again, thank you very much!

Hi,

Just got it. Go to the Bar Council office and enquire about the exact place to apply for this. Provide them with a handwritten letter along with your membership card & a fee of Rs 500, within a week you can go and collect it, once you finish. Good luck.

Prejal,
I have moved out of India now. Wanted to know if they asked to see the original copy of the membership card or a photo copy will do.
Thanks for your prompt reply.
