By the way, I think that the most relevant category in this ranking is the one about job prospects. I think that the rankings would be quite different!

for job propects I think it's mostly Oxbridge and LSE/KCL/UCL.

The results of the student survey are heavily weighted, particularly in the Times table, unless result not entered. Kings tends to do very well out of the SS, hence very high rankings in the table last year.

Just to keep the never-ending (and some times really funny) rank discussion updated, the times released a new ranking for 2010...

Nottingham better thatn KCL??
Posted Jun 05, 2009 10:14
welll...if you consider it in accordance with the facility provided by the University then yes..>Nottingham is better than KCL.
Unfortunately....I have not heard the Ranking system taking into consideration the Location of the University...!
KCL is in the city of London....the main hub/network...!
Whereas Nottingham city is comparitively not that great....So in reality i would still prefer KCL over Nottingham....
But a student who does not care about the location, does not care about where he going to find the job, does not care about the life style he is goig to live, does not care about the kind of social contacts he wants to build or has any specific needs with respect to the above then he may choose Nottingham..>!

I do think you can ever choose Nottingham over KCL.If you are shooting for prestige, if you are looking to specialize you pick between KCL/UCL/LSE depending on specialization.

I'm not a fan of rankings, but what is interesting with the ranking is how some previous big hitters have sunk so low. E.g. Manchester is down to 17 with the Guardian, and with The Times (the more recognised rankings) down to 27.
I suppose this say two things: that universities shouldn't simply rest on their reputations, and there is no guarantee that anyone stays near the top (exc. Oxbridge).
(Of course, we have to remember these rankings reflect undergraduate satisfaction.)
