Hi everyone

I got a call last night (Australian time) from Oxford, with some good news - admitted to the MLF course! The lady said they will be sending out the letters later in the week.

Has anyone else heard back? Interested to get to know anyone who will be enrolling.

Cheers

Hi. Me and like 3 more people also got the call yesterday. The discussions are going on in the BCL/MJur thread but it will be nice to keep them here.

I will choose MFL between MFL and Cambridge LL.M.

The only problem is... MONEY! It really does cost a lot!

Anyway, let's wait for scholarship results... I'll then decide...

Anyway, congratulations to you all, guys! :)

Hi Everyone! Congratulations to all those who who have received in offer. I have a general question for all who have been selected for MLF. Is there any deadline to accept the offer? I understand that a deposit is required to be paid for MLF, but any idea by when it is required to be paid!

Though I know, this question may not be appropriate but any idea whether the offers have been made only to 30 applicants or to more (say 40 considering there may be rejections). Thanks and Cheers!

As I understand it, there are two deadlines.

Firstly, you need to accept by 1 May.

Secondly, you need to pay the deposit within 30 days of accepting (so if you accept today, you need to pay the deposit by 14 April).

Hope this helps.

I would think that if they aimed for 30 people in the course, they would start with 35 or so first round offers. Then if more than 5 people reject, they would go to second round.

It's pretty standard practice to make a slightly higher number offers than the number of people you need, given that at least a couple will amost certainly not accept the offer. They would look at the statistics from previous years in terms of how many people (out of those who are offered) actually accept, and would probably base the number of first round offers on that.

Well, as far as I won't get a scholarship, I'm one of those who won't accept the offer :D

Anyways, many of us offer-holders have received other offers that could better suit our own interests... So, there are still chances of being admitted even if you're on a waiting list. It depends, I suppose, on how you rank in the waiting list itself...

Thanks for the reply demi88. Informing students about their waiting list no. is against their policy. Anyways hoping for the best!!
Any idea, given the general practice at Oxford, how many waiting list candidates be there?,

Well, do you know any person who has been given an offer for MLF after being waitlisted in the past. I understand it all depends on the rank in the waiting list and how many persons who have received an offer opt outs. But just in general!

It's probably a bit hard to judge anything based on past years yet, as this is only the third intake (so not enough info available to analyze statistics meaningfully).

In terms of what you can do, I would say definitely let the faculty know just how keen you would be to get offered a place on the course - genuine interest would suggest you would be well suited and it may give you an advantage over someone whose application is of a similar strength to yours, but who plays it cool and doesn't follow up. It can't hurt, and they are more likely to be interested in people who are really keen (all things being equal). My opinion.

But yes, bit of a shame they don't tell you where on the waiting list you are.

Thanks Loshy! Hoping for the best. I think, it all depends on luck now. Well, was going through the current and past MLF students and it appears that there were 34 students in 2010(based on employment report) and 31 in 2011 (based on the Students profile). Assuming in the first year, they would have offered places to 40 and thus the number came down to 34 and in the next year to 35 -40 and the number came down to 31. But in the none of the cases it appears that any waiting list person was offered. May be wrong in my assumptions, but thats what it apears!

Have no idea, sorry... Did you put it as your first choice college?

At least we know that college decisions are coming out...
