London/Aberdeen

Hi,

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but do you think it is possible to attend a part-time LLM in Aberdeen while living in London? I am only asking because I am going to LSE in September with my family (husband + two toddlers) and my husband is now getting really interest on Aberdeen's LLM (he currently works in the field of oil and gas law). We simply can not live separated for one year, because of our children, and I can not stay longer than 18-24 months in the UK (I am a civil servant in my country).
Do you think it would be possible to do it (traveling by plane, of course)?

Thank you!

I cant be sure cause I dont live there, but I dont think it would be possible. Ive googled the distance between Aberdeen and London and it popped up more than 640 kilometres. Im not great at maths, but I have reckoned on my fingers quickly that itd take at least an hour and a half to get to Aberdeen from London. And your husband would need to arrive at least 40 minutes before the flight I dont really think its feasible...

Hi beicon,
In fact, he has completed his master degree at PUC/SP while working and living in Brasilia (it was pretty hard, though). I think it is more or less the same thing, but I wonder whether the classes occur everyday or he could go only twice a week, e.g. I was hoping someone had already had an experience like that to tell me... Here in Brasilia, a lot of people study in SP, traveling weekly for the classes...
thanks!

I think zixx777 is currently in Aberdeen. Send him/her a PM. Maybe he/she will be able to give you better idea of how things work round there. Anyways, I've spoken to a guy (he used to post here, but it's been awhile since I last saw him wandering about the site) who said that classes at Aberdeen weren't held on a daily basis. As most LLMs, you end up going to class only two or three times a week. But I don't think the workload involved would be the same as a master at PUC/SP. I'm a PUC/SP graduate myself, and although I didn't purse any graduate study there, I kindda know how it works. I've got the impression that an LLM at Aberdeen, whilst living in London, has a great chance of turning what is supposed to be a pleasant experience into a "nightmareish" year.

Yeah, I agree with you. I wish you could both do the LLM's at the same time. But guess my husband will spend a year as a desperate househusband :-)
Actually, he is already thinking about spending the year writing articles and a book he has long been planning to write.
And there is still the possibily to do an at-distance LLM at Dundee...
Thanks again!
