LLM - Non-academic Employment?

nomadwa

I am a student with a non-common-law background (LLB in international law from a Dutch university) and I have the intention to apply for an LLM programme in the UK. What I wish to know is whether a typical LLM degree holder (either taught or research programme) has a wide range of employment opportunities outside of academia. The MJur at Oxford, for example, does NOT qualify its graduates to practise law anywhere, though it is a programme with great prestige. Will a programme like that, or something less prestigious, be of much help, if I intend to seek employment in the private sector (legal profession or not)? Or, will I be better off in the job market, if I give up this idea and go for a traditional LLM in International Law, or a more specialised one like an LLM in International Taxation Law? Anyone with some insights on employability in European Union context?

Oh no. You made the grave mistake of asking what one can actually do with an LLM....

I've noticed that questions like this are rarely answered on this board.
