What are UK Magic Circle & US law firms' views on an LLM from University of Manchester?
I have realized that recruiters often have personal favourites among universities rather than relying heavily on league tables.
Besides the usual London unversities, which other UK universities are more highly regarded by employers than Manchester?

i had a great time in Man U doing my LLB in fact.
the student prof rapport is fantastic.
And we've got quite a number of exceptional academics that will leave you inspired.
neil duxbury, anthony ogus, andrew sanders, rodney brazier etcetc you name them.
there is an intense student feel about the place, all embracing and you'll settle in easy.
The LLM prog here is pretty good too. I believe in areas like law and economics, IP, criminal justice we stand out.
Reputation wise, its undoubted that Man Law fac is up there with the rest. I personally rate it above nottingham bristol warwick.
I've decided against staying here for my LLM as I'll probably be heading to Cambridge. Assuming I meet my conditional.

well i did my llm in manchester and again i can say the quality of the teaching stuff was just great. i don't really think that the uni has anything to envy to other institutions outside oxbridge, apart from reputation of course.
when you compare facilities, the range of courses offered and above all the quality of the school of law (have a look at the stuff on the website!), i think you realise most london colleges are trailing behind manchester. but again reputation and glamour may direct people towards different choices.

i do agree.
manchester really is an underrated law school.
if you cant get a place in oxon cantab lse ucl, i believe this would be the choice far above anything else.

i do have to add.
that obtaining a job in a top firm requires more than just a certificate indicating a certain specialisation.
i mean, i believe they look beyond the empirical.
also, if you obtained all firsts in your undergrad, and say you went to XXX law school which isnt even heard of, i am certain you wouldnt be deemed inferior in any way.
i am of the position that when looking for a law school to do your masters do check on what areas that school is known for and ask yourself the ultimate question, what do you look for in a law school at an intellectual level. not whether it'll get you employed. that will come as a corollary.
for me i certainly look for inspiration. if i had the chance to be acquainted with r. dworkin or instance, or to bounce ideas off him for just an hr i certainly wouldnt mind going to barbados.

pls dont get me wrong.
im currently averaging a first class in manchester university
and i am aware that many others who have obtained a similar or even lower grade average have obtained offers from allen & overy etc
the school has links with thelikes of clifford chance freshfields and linklaters.
reputation wise, i do not believe firms' opinions are oxbridge, london-centric.
but if u are looking for place to specialise, you should first ask yourself where your interests lie and work from there.
the problem i find with this forum is everyone seems to only want to find empirical justification ie wages, jobs etc.
