Hi. I am an American student taking the LLM in International Law with International Relations at the University of Kent at Canterbury starting next month. I was just wondering what are my chances of getting a part time job/internship at an NGO or something similar while in school that could lead to a permanent position eventually once I'm done. I also do plan on coming back here to the US upon graduation if nothing pans out, but if something comes up then I might just go ahead and work there. Any opinions/advice??

Hello
Hope all is well and you had a great time completing your LLM. I am a prospective student at the University of Kent (Brussels Campus) to pursue the same program of LLM.
How was your experience at the University, even though it's a different Campus/country I would assume they have similar system? Your feedback and advice is greatly appreciated.
The reason I applied for LLM at Kent (Brussels Campus), it is known that Brussels the Capital of Europe in World Affairs. Based on my research they offer and help students to get an internship with their partnered NGOs and International Organizations such as EU, NATO and UN. If you plan to work in the US, you can start applying for internships maybe the job market is wide and it all depends on where you want to work.. I have great preference to work with the UN one day, and I aim to focus on Huma Rights and such..
Hope this info is helpful although you must be done by now.. And I hope to hear from you as well :)
Good luck

I enjoyed my one year at UKC. There will be a lot of reading and you will have to write essays. But quite frankly you can get away with not doing all the readings as long as you know what to write about in your papers. You will have a lot of time out of class as you will only be in class about 6 or 7 hours a week. So use your time wisely. It was a great experience for me since I'm American and this was my first time to study in Europe.

Great!
Yes I anticipate alot of readings. I recently purchased the "suggested readings" they have on their site for LLM future students. So I hope that will help!
Aside from Eastern Europe, I've never been to Central Europe. So I really look forward to Brussels. And hope you enjoyed the program.
Good luck with your career :)
