Hi,
I think Essex has the best Human Rights programme in the UK, maybe even the EU. Faculty there are excellent, and the programme is VERY well known.
Dont know about Nottingham.

People say Essex have got the best Human Right LLM programme. However, reputationwise Nottingham overtake Essex. Though choice... I gather you'll need to decide what you want from your LLM... an university with a better overall reputation (Nottingham) or a university that is known for having a specialised degree in your area (Essex). I don't think I've been much helpful...

Hi,
There is no doubt Essex is the best human rights programme in Europe, if not in the world. Just look at professors teaching, or ask people working in this field, they will all be unanimous (teaching).
And something that is not always visible... Essex has the best network of human rights alumni, they are at the top of many human rights institutions... and many institutions immediately recognise Essex has a sure value + Essex has special connexions with several NGOs and international organisations - I am well placed to know it (networking and employability).
And in Essex, close to London (but cheaper), you will have many opportunities to train your skills and meet important people for your future (conferences, human rights clinic, help of professors on cases, skills training...).
If you have any doubts, ask alumni/people in the field, it will be your best source of information.

Hello everyone!!
I applied to Essex on Feb. 22,2010. Do you guys happen to know when it's more likely to hear from them? I got an offer from KCL, but I really would love to attend to Essex, since I wanna pursue an LLM in Int. HR & Humanitarian Law.
thank you in advance!!!

Thank you so much!
That means Ill have to wait one more week. I also chose those two programs, but giving preference to Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, since Im very interested in Refugee Law and Armed Conflict Law. I really hope I get in! I got offers from Georgetown (US), Utrecht(UK) and KCL in London, but I think Essex offers the highest level of specialization for me, so I really hope they accept me.
What is your nationality? Why did you decide to go to Essex?
Best of lucks to you!

Hi again! well as far as I am concern the LLM in Utrecht (the netherlands) is in International Human Rights Law and Criminal Justice I dont know about KCL or Georgetown. I would recommend you to study in the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights which is in my opinion the best in this topic but the deadline was January 31. I didnt apply there because I dont have a diploma in Law ( I studied International Relations).
I decided to go to Essex because when I did an internship in Geneva the people that I meet there recommended me Essex and The Geneva Academy. An alumni who I work with also told me about Essex. Then I decided to look at the Staff of the Human Rights Center and well as you probably know its excellent. Look also in the discussion boards about Essex.
By the way I am from Colombia. What about you?
Best Regards

Well, that's nice, we are neighbors ! I am from Venezuela and I worked in this NGO for a year in the borderline with Colombia, assisting Colombian refugees.
I knew about the Academy, but living in the UK seems much more interesting to me, and I also prefer the modules taught in these schools. I really hope they accept me at Essex ! If they do, I'll let you know, we will probably meet there and speak spanish! haha.
Best regards!

If I were you, I'd choose Essex (Human Rights)

Nottingham for general (better) impression, Essex for better quality in your area of interest (human rights)
