LLM in Socio Legal Studies

Hi everyone,

I am looking at the LLM in socio legal studies at Warwick. But there just isn't ANY information on there of what it's about!

Does anyone know what the LLM is about?! Furthermore is it a good LLM to study, or would one in human rights be better?

Any thoughts would be really appreciated =)

I'm not very into this topic but I think that the LLM you mention is more like theory and sociology of law (relationships between society and law), while a LLM in Human Rights is more about theory and practice of Human Rights, the international law of HR and international justice. It also dependes on what do you want to work in.

However, I'm not an expert!

LLM in Socio Legal Studies is fantastic if you are planning on being an academic and going on to be a lecturer in that field.

But if you wish to practise law then there will be some questions to ask whether this will benefit you or not.

I would highly recommend you to study an LLM in an area that is needed in society and in practise.

HR is a popular option as it is very diverse in terms of how you can use the LLM later outside of the legal profession.

You should check out Bristol's webpage on socio-legal studies. It has a much better explanation on what the subject is about, the modules seem better too.
