Scotland is great! As a place to live and study I cannot recommend it highly enough, but then again I was born here and I have lived here most of my life.
What LL.M programme have you applied for? You may find that some employers have preferences for different programmes at each University.
I'm not sure about your visa requirements, but if you contact the International Office, or perhaps the admissions office at either of those Universities, you would receive an answer!
(e.g. http://www.ed.ac.uk/internat/immigration/visas/immigration_visas.html)
Good luck!

thanks mate, subject is commercial law hearing a lot about aberdeen in the dicussion sites but my friends says it isnt good enough what do u think

Arun,
Aberdeen is a long way behind the other two. I think some people have come on to the discussion sites to try and pump up its profile but you would be crazy to go there over Edinburgh or St. Andrews.

What particular areas of commercial law are you interested in? If you decide to come to University of Edinburgh (and I hope you do!) you must choose at least two (or maximum of three) courses from the following titles:
Commercial Contracts; Principles of Contract Law; International Commercial Arbitration; Company Law; Law of Obligations and International Tax Law.
If you do not want to choose three from the above you can choose one course from the courses available on the general LL.M course list within the School of Law: http://www.law.ed.ac.uk/courses/
I know that there is a lot of interest in the courses offered in the fields of intellectual property and information technology law, though these courses are only offered to students who apply for the LL.M Technology, Innovation and the Law. That's the programme where my interest lies, but if I can be of any further help regarding studying law at the University of Edinburgh, feel free to PM me or post below!
Good luck.

I got an offer from Edinburgh and I will accept it. It's for the
LLM in commercial law and I would like to take the following
courses: commercial contracts, arbitration and internal
markets (or competition law, whatever it will be called).
I'm really excited to go to Edinburgh. Reactions in
Switzerland are mixed, but I wanted to stay in Europe and
I think Scotland will be more personal than a bigger program
like UCL. And apparently, U Edinburgh has a great
reputation which is like the icing on the cake.
So, anyone joining me this fall?! :-)

Zorkan.. I think that I will accept my offer from Edinb too! But I have a tiny problem. I cant find any courses that actually thrill me and the list of courses for the commercial stream isnt that big.
CMiller... Could you give any info about Company law? You see, I am interested only for the courses based on european or international law. Could you tell me whether the above-mentioned program is based on these or on scots/brit law? Which other courses would you propose to me? Until now I am sure only for EC Competition law and that isnt one of the specific stream...

I share your opinion about the courses. I also got an offer
from Glasgow and I would have preferred the courses
there: IP law, competition law and arbitration law. However
I have quite some favourable statements from alumni I
know personally, which is why I chose Edinburgh.
From the description of Company law it seems quite UK-
centric. I prefer EU-focussed courses as well, since they
will have a bigger importance in my future work. Since I
would have taken Competition law and Arbitration anyway,
it was merely trading IP law for commercial contracts. From
the description of the course I have some concerns, but
overall it seems like an interesting course.
Any alumni or staff cruising on this board? ;-)

Hi Zorkan!
I understand that you are interested in taking Int Arbitration law in Edin. Do you have a relevant experience or have you ever taken a course like that? I ask you because on the school's web site the course has a mark meaning that students with relevant knowledge should take this course.
Since I dont have any of that I wonder if there is going to be any problem if I wish to follow that course.
CMiller! Maybe you know sth about it...

I don't have any experience at all ;-) I shared the same
doubts but figured I'd just try getting in. I doubt that there are
a lot of people with experience anyway. I might misjudge
this situation in which case I will have choose another
course. I have not yet heard any negative reports from
the university though. Since they offered me a place on the
LLM in Commercial Law, I think it won't be a problem.
You might want to contact the University to make sure
though. I would definately be interested in their answer,
hehe :-)

Or Glasgow, for that matter.
Thanks Joseph1.
When you said "Glasgow" does that include Glasgow Graduate School of Law? I've received an offer from GGSL for 2005
