Hey guys, I am an American citizen who is contemplating attending KCL for an LLM in Intellectual Property. Have recently been accepted and currently await word from UCL as to whether or not I have been accepted. Does anyone know which schools in London are known by American law firms? The ultimate goal is to work for the top firms in NY. If you do not know whether Americans recognize UCL or KCL, then would KCL or UCL afford me the opportunity to work in a large firm in the UK?

Why are you planning to go to London? There are a lots of better school in US. Anyway, being italian, I can tell you that the most important american law firms in italy (Clearly Gottlieb, Mc Dermott, DLA Piper ....) consider KCL and UCL as the best College in London, while in all UK Oxbridge is in the first tier. I don't know about the possibilities to work in UK law firms.

have you actually looked at the modules offered at the two institutions?
i believe UCL only teaches 1 IP subject (industrial and intellectual property law), whereas KCL offers 8 different ones. UCL seem to focus their LLM subjects around commercial law-type modules and public international law.
In addition, QMUL appears to offer the greatest range of IP modules, and would seem to be the principal institution regarding IP.
Thus, if one intends to concentrate on IP, KCL or QMUL would appear to be the natural choices, regardless of whether (as some people argue) UCL has a stronger reputation for law overall. It simply doesn't offer the modules.
If anyone disagrees, feel free to express their views, as I am also considering reading an LLM on IP.

To answer your question, I would like to go to London because I am tired of being in the US. I am looking for a change in my life and thought that along with great education, the UK would definitely offer a change.
