LLM and accomodation period

I've noticed that many universities offer to postgraduates only 1 year (51 weeks) accomodation contracts which include the summer months and I'm not sure whether it is neccessary to stay for so long.
If my understanding from the inquiries is correct, there is no residency requirement during the summer break and if you need to write the LLM dissertation during this time, you can do the most part externally, from your home.
Those of you who intend to live at an university arranged accomodation, do you consider to you stay on campus during the summer and pay the accomodation rent for this time?

If you have the money to pay for 51 weeks, why not? I will be in London whilst I write my dissertation. If Iam going to be there for the terms, why not for the vacations too:)
