KCL vs QMUL

Igna

Which is better? I have offers from both of them.
In QM I find the LLM in banking and finance, in which I'm intereseted.
There is no such specialisation in KCL, although it has very interesting ones.
What do you think?
Thanks, regards!!

It very much depends on the program. In general, I think KCL's reputation carries more prestige, but, from what I understand, that does not hold true for all programs.

everyone here will say KCL is better (probably because it is lol) but QMUL has a ridiculous amount of options. if you are one the fence about these two unis best to look at the modules and see which ones you would prefer to do :)

You need to understand that banking and finance are separate specialisation. It is only at KCL that you have a specialised course called International Finance Law, most of the colleges have banking and finance law as their specialisation.

KCL doesnt combine banking and finance together. If you want to study banking, you can take up commercial banking, which is taught by Professor Richard Hooley. He is really good at the subject, teaches at Oxford also and has written several books on the same. Most of the students in other colleges read from his book.

Finance subjects are different and are not mixed with banking. However you can always take up which ever module you wish.

Finance I covers syndicated loans, bonds, GDR, MTNs etc, Finance II covers loan sale and project finance and Finance III covers securitisation and derivatives. Finance I, II and III are taught by Prof Ravi Tennekoon (again written book on the subject, extremely popular).

Financial Risk, taught by Prof Dalhusien in the 1st semester and Prof Ludwick Van Setten (present MD of Morgan Stanley) in the second semester. Dalhusien- teaches in Berkeley US too.

Besides, you have very specialised courses like legal Issues in corporate Finance, which is taught by Prof. Tunde (who also teaches in the 1st semester in NYU in US). His course which is a half module starts in the second semester.

Courses at KCL are very practical oriented would really give you a very deep understanding of the entire financial market.

If you want to study Banking and Finance and really understand the subject very well then KCL is the place for you.

I got through UCLA and Vanderbilt in the US and decided to come to KCL because of their excellent module and trust me I think that I made the best decision, coming to KCL.

I have had 4 years of work-ex and this course has really added value to me.

I hope you make a good decision at the end of the day.
Besides, in terms of reputation amongst Law firms QMUL doesnt stand at the same level as KCL or UCL. Remember, getting an offer from QMUL is no big deal everybody gets an offer from there but not everyone gets an offer from KCL.

Goodluck!
