Please

There are someone helpful that could assit me in make a choice?

I am from Brazil and I would like to apply to a Intenational Law LL.M. in UK to the Fall Semester of 2007.

Where should I go, considering reputation, good professors, place and anything else.

Cambridge,

Outside of US (NYU), best at international law. Professor Crawford, Professor Gray, Dr O'Keefe, Lauterpunkt Centre for International Law that has lectures every week, numerous internships etc. Every other e-mail I get is about some international law event taking place in the faculty. Its 1 hr by direct train to London. Train runs until midnight every night, gets into Kings Cross station. Cambridge itself is nice enough, but sometimes feels like you are living in boarding school (and considering I never went to boarding school this was a bit of a shock to the system). The entire ethos about the place is towards work and study. Some nice enough bars but generally if you are going to go out you wait until weekend and head to London.
Also, very very very economical compared to other postgraduate programs considering that for your accomodation including internet electricity cooking facilities subsidised meals (£1/$1.50 for soup meal desert and can of coke) and tuition will come to about 12000 for the year(maybe slightly less).
The resources here are incredible. Library fantastic and they subscribe to just about every electronic legal database on earth.
So for international law, would defintely advise coming here or NYU. Although if you are serious about international alw as a career I would strongly advise that you look at NYU first. One of the best in the world for international law (and tax) and incredible opportunities for internships with UN and International Criminal Court. Also loads of fantastic scholarships (full tuition waiver) AND they have a combination LLM/SJD (masters and doctorate) international law program. Another very important thing to remember is that NYU does not charge Doctoral students tuition! They can also guarantee accomodation for all incoming students in Greenwich Village, just about the trendiest part of New York. Fantastic social life and they are pretty start of the art technology-wise.
If you can speak Dutch/French/German then I think University of Leiden would be the other one. Apparently very strong connections to the Hague. Don't know much more about it.

Wow...

Thank you really much!!!

I am considering many things to make a decision, but I am sure about to do my LL.M. on UK. I´ve already did a home stay program at USA and I would like to study in Uk. I think that the quality is the same and the universe of opportinities are much bigger.

The only problem about cambridge is that the application period is closed... I´ve lost it.

Is there any other good university to indicate? I am considering an International Commerce LL.M. too.

Thanks all

I will be going to Leiden in September 2007. The LL.M. in Public International Law is half taught in Leiden and half at The Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies in The Hague (part of Leiden's Hague campus).

Applications are still open.

Thanks Kris!!!

Where are you from?

I really liked this option.

Mostly for the stage in the hague.

Do you know how hard is to get in?

Hi,

You will need at least a good Second Class ranking to be considered. This translates to a "B" in your Bachelor's degree.

The LL.M. Advanced is a bit more difficult. They generally require good marks along with professional experience in the area or a related area. (Accordingly, this class is generally composed of older students.)

Apparently, the sections taught in The Hague use professionals from international institutions there to teach, give presentations, as well as go on excursions, etc... So, it should be really fun!

I'm from Canada, btw.

I encourage you to apply!!

Chris

hi rafael. U might also want to think about the Oxford BCL. I am also interested in pursuing a career in international law, and like you got so caught up in fulfilling my bar course requirements in Uganda that i totally missed the Cambridge deadline. I opted for Ox as a good alternatiove especially since its application deadline is normally January 20th for the BCL. It might not be the best International Law LLM but it is certainly not the worst :) Cheers and good luck

Oxford certainly is a great choice.

What do you think about KCL (King Cross) and UCL (U London)?

They are good in this area?

Tks
