The law department at York is relatively new and I dont think many people have had the chance to try it out and possibly form a grounded opinion on the law school in general, much less about a specialised programme such as human rights. In the UK York is considered a top university overall, but if I were you and had other offers, I think Id cast York aside and head somewhere else. Im sure than in a few years time, York Law Scholl will be a great school and will measure up to the fame and reputation of the University, but as any start-up project, it will certainly undergo troubling times at the beginning.

Hi Snoopy and Others,
I am a LLM student at the Centre for Applied Human Rights and I also completed my undergraduate law degree at the University of York Law School as part of the first cohort. Personally, I have had a fantastic experience at the Law School and hope that other people are not put off because the courses are new.
The staff at the Law School and in the Centre for Applied Human Rights are experienced as both academics and legal practitioners. Their knowledge and enthusiasm for the subjects they teach makes modules interesting. Similarly, the LLM focuses on both legal knowledge and practical skills making it highly beneficial to those who wish to work in a legal environment. The applied nature of York's Law School's courses make them very different to other universities' courses. From my experience the courses stand out in job applications and interviews and people are impressed by the content and the development of skills used in practice.
For anyone that has any questions or concerns do not hesitate to reply to this thread or contact a member of staff at the Centre for Applied Human Rights by email (listed on the department's staff page).
