What are the respective strengths as far as specific areas of law are concerend of the following universities:
-Edinburgh
-Durham
-UCL
-LSE

On which level? General LLB or LLM? Or research generally?
Edinburgh is strong in several areas, as are the others I suspect. Can you give a bit more context to your query?

I am working towards the end of my LLM at Durham University. My advice : DO NOT GO. It is a truly bizarre that is a university usually ranked among the best in the country, but please, believe me, ignore rankings, the law school is pretty average. Furthermore, out of 90 students 60 are from Xina (with the due respect to the Chinese community), the collegiate system is not that good as one might think, the city is marvelous for 2 days with your partner not for one year!, lack of good restaurants,bars and nightlife, bus only runs till 6:30... If I were you, I would go -in this order- to UCL and Edimburgh.

Colorado, that's some u-turn since your post on the best university towns thread.

But I have to agree, Durham isn't as great for the LLM (very much a bums-on-seats affair).
