"Only in exceptional circumstances will LL.M applications received after 31st May be considered for admission in the next academic year."

For distance learning at Edinburgh it reads slightly different:

"You are invited to submit your application by the end of July for entry in September 2007.

Later entrance, in August and September, is possible but you are advised to ensure you complete this application process in good time as programme and module places are generally allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and may be subject to restriction. Please email llm.distance@ed.ac.uk for further information regarding application deadlines and availability and visit our FAQ section.

Applications for January 2008 entrance will be considered in November and December 2007."
