In case you want to practice in the UK, you need a (i) Work permit (ii) Pass the QLTT exam (as well as fulfill all other criterion as set out by the Law Society) and/or pass GDL (Graduate Diploma in Law) also called CPE (Common Professional Examination) to be followed by LPC (if want to practice as a solicitor) or BVC (if want to practice as a Barrister).

With the current economic climate, finding a job in the UK may be extremely tough right now.

As regarding LLM from the UK, only really worth it if you can manage to get admission in Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, UCL or KCL..

But in case you want to practice in the UK, you would be better off doing a GDL followed by LPC.

Hope this helps....

"Reeta" Im sorry but you are wrong in this case. A qualified lawyer with bar membership can take QLTT exam and if one passes, then become eligible to practice in England and Wales. The traditional LPC/GDL and training contracts are required only for people not qualified as bar members form commonwealth countries.

grishmaahuja, you can take this test as soon as you receive your bar membership (this happens after you've received your law degree.)
