Cambridge LL.M. Applicants 2023-2024

To those more familiar with the British education system, how do Cambridge’s graduate degree classifications work? I know that for British undergrad degrees, you have designations like “first”, “upper second”, etc. Will we as graduate students have similar distinctions or is it merely pass or fail?

Not sure but I believe they have Distinction, Merit, Pass, and Fail.

Should rather be like the undergrad classification but rather than starred first at the top they will have a first class with distinction instead.

where did you hear that there are no prospects of adding extra courses? It might make sense to email them about this, Cambridge must have some lectures capable of doing these sorts of papers. A complete lack of commercial litigation papers would be quite disappointing for a lot of people.

Most likely not any more papers for this year. Several of these subjects were cut due to the retirement of senior academics this year or last year who they could not get a replacement for in time. The law faculty has started a rather significant recruitment process for some 15 or so (I think it was) new staff, but from my understanding, they don't expect subjects such as int com lit to be revived before the 2024//2025 acad year.

I agree with you! My guess is that they are still in the process of finding lecturers for the next academic year. So if a lot of people write to them signalling their interest in commercial litigation, maybe that will have an impact? I hope at least.

I have done this and received a quite generic response about not knowing of any additions or otherwise. Let me know if they tell you anything useful please.

Is anyone else a bit disappointed with the paper offering for next academic year? Looks like Cambridge have cut a bunch of extremely popular commercial law papers (Advanced Private Law, Commercial Litigation, Economics of Law and Regulation, Transactional Law, International IP) are all not running.
[/quote]

Yes, I'm disappointed too... My main interest is in commercial law, and there isn't any paper in that area this year! DO you think they will add more papers? Hey everyone!

I was moved to PAO and have been stuck there since around February 14. It had been taking so long, I was certain my frustration would only end in a rejection. However, I JUST received my conditional offer 1f62d. Don't lose hope y'all. Wishing everyone the absolute best and hoping the PAO folks get offers soon.

Curious to know how many people here that had MCL offers have rejected them?

Forgot to mention that I was accepted by Queens College (which was my second choice) a while ago. They gave me a separate email to say that I was accepted and then told me to register for accommodation by 1st May.

No news on any scholarships yet, which is unfortunate since I will need full funding in order to take up the offer. I deliberately emailed the Law Faculty too to ask about scholarships, but they gave me an inconclusive answer saying that "everyone is automatically referred" for them. So I have no idea if I'm like a likely contender for the scholarships I'm eligible like Cambridge Trust.

Anyone had any news re: scholarships?

I have heard that some colleges have already made funding decisions (e.g. Trinity made theirs in late March/early April).

I have also heard that some nominations have been made for other scholarships (but don't have any specific details).

Furthermore, apparently decisions will be made by Cambridge Australia in about the 17th May regarding scholarships (as people have already had their interviews). I am unsure if this includes all of Cambridge Trust as a whole or if this applies only to the Australian scholarships.
