Cambridge application 2018/2019

Mombastic

Current Cambridge undergrad applying for the LLM here. I wouldn't worry too much about progress of this year's applications compared to last year's, from speaking to someone involved in admissions last year it sounds like there were a couple of people on the admissions team that were really organised over xmas so the applications they were involved in were moved on much quicker than others. I believe that due to the lateness of the final decisions last year there have been some changes in the decision making process (although I don't know exactly what) so the timing between years isn't really comparable. I can't explain the person who seems to have moved on, but they are certainly the only person I've heard of who has done so.

Cheers for your kind information! So I presume that still the offers would be sent between 1-15 March as originally stated, right? :)

Thanks so much for the reassurance, folks! Sounds like it's too early to worry about the status of our applications as indicated in the portal. The waiting game continues!

Yes I'd expect to hear back between those dates. The only possible exception (and change from last year) is that this diagram: https://www.graduate.study.cam.ac.uk/sites/www.2018.graduate.study.cam.ac.uk/files/process_chart1_0.pdf which somebody posed on the previous page suggests that we might hear back earlier than that if we are rejected. I feel like I've read that somewhere else as well but I can't remember where.Even if that is correct, it looks like it will be by email rather than via the applicant portal so I don't think there's any need to obsessively check the application status either way.

Hey everyone!

Do you know if we stand a chance with (only) a Bachelor degree in law (be it summa cum laude)? Or are we also expected to have also achieved a master degree?

I understand that a Bachelors degree in law, with First Class Honours, is expected. A Masters degree is not expected. :)

I just read through all previous posts and found that I may be the only applicant for Cambridge's MCL here.

I wish us the very best of luck in our applications...

I also applied for MCL. I hear getting into MCL is relatively tougher owing to smaller batch sizes.

How long do they take to make a decision?

Guys, I would like to ask you a kind favour. Could you please let me know if your status is the same, i.e. 'Under review by department'? I'm asking this since as far as I'm aware our apps will pass through three departments, and was curious to find out if they have progressed to the next stage. Thank you in advance :)

My status is the same (I applied on November 14).

Should I be worried because my status is "Submitted" ?? What is going on? Am I missing out on something?

Hey folks, mine is still ‘under review by department’ as well. Compared to previous years, it’s unusual that we’re all apparently still stuck at that stage in mid-January (though I take the point that someone made in a previous post that the chronology of the process differs each year, particularly given the late and haphazard offer process last year). Guess we just have to wait, and hope the progress of our applications speeds up...! :)

The Faculty learnt its lessons from the mess of last year's admission process. It is exercising caution this year so that people can hear back around the same time rather than "tranched" movements.

I bet progress will start to be seen at the end of the month or shortly after the February Degree Committee meeting. The University still has to deal with undergrad and PHD admissions, all of which require interviews.

The status of my application first stated "submitted", then "under review by degree committee" and now it has been "under review by department" for some time. Maybe they changed the order of progress (somewhere on their website it stated that "under review by degree committee" was the second stage).

The same thing happened to me. I just assumed it was an error.

Based upon what are you saying this? Do you work at the admissions office or is it just a rumour? Because from what I've gathered offers only go out at the earliest somewhere in March.

Hey everyone,

I applied to Cambridge on a whim (have a first class honours LLB from a top 250 university and one years experience as a lecturers assistant).

I know this may be a case of cart before the horse, but how does everyone plan to fund their degree if successful? I am holding out hope for some sort of scholarship or else I may not be able to attend.

Eoin.
