BCL V. LL.M (Cam)

saketsikri

Hello as i have written before i have made it to the bcl (Lady Margaret Hall College)as well as the ll.m (cam[Queens College]) its time i take a call
its difficult for me as would be for all similarly posited
while the LL.M at Cam is focused on inter law the bcl is Structured for jurisprudential courses (now is that correct?) i m also informed that the B.C.L is rigorous if compared to the LLM (is that also correct?) yes the tutorials are an advantage but whether determinative is the question ?
i am interested in commercial laws and courses related to intern dispute settlement, intel property law competition law ........
i want to take a decision and stick to it pl advice i have done enough research and concluded that the B.C.L marginally scores over the cam ll.m
whereas cam has range of subjects which ox does not offer
i also now know that college does not matter but Queens College has 5 law fellows and the results are usually good ........this confuses me more....... pl give a sane advice else Ill go insane h e he

hi, i chanced on your thread while looking for another but thought i'll reply to this. the bcl is definitely tougher than the llm. i'm currently on the bcl programme and i can tell you it's alot of work. ultimately, you have to make a call and see what your priorities are. personally, i think i would have been happier doing the llm because of the greater amount of free time for me to socialise. i find it difficult to do so while on the bcl programme given that there are lectures, seminars and tutorials and collections (i.e. mock exams). this is a sentiment shared by some of my peers (one of whom did the cam llm before coming here to do the bcl - he's mad!).

you are right that there aren't as many commercial law subjects on the bcl but as far as i can most of the courses you want to take (i.e. IDS, competition, etc) should be offered in 2005/6.

lastly, the pt abt colleges. as a graduate student, i don't think it matters really. the tutors are more interested in their undergads and leave the grads very much to their own devices. i come from a college where there are 5 law fellows as well but i've barely met with them and only over formals. in any case, i think you should know that i think lmh is a great college (although a little out of the way, being on the other side of the university park).
