Most universities have centralised admissions centres that deal with many courses of study. Some admissions departments are centralised higher than others so they could even be dealing with multiple schools, faculties or colleges. It's a very busy time of year between now (March) and matriculation (September/October) and anyone who has visited the admissions offices will see the amount of post/email received in a day can be quite staggering!

Some unis will issue written receipts, some by email and some not at all.

All I would suggest is that you sit and wait - give them a week or two more. Drop them an email or make a call to ensure that they have received it if you haven't already heard back.

(BTW, I work with admissions on the LL.M Innovation, Technology and the Law (distance learning) at the University of Edinburgh and deal with applications for courses at the School of Law daily!)
