Anyone received an offer from Cambridge?

jammyc

Hey guys! I am an applicant for the 18/19 intake.

I am not trying to stir up your emotions or anything. It's just I received an email from Cambridge Trust, which says "If you receive or have received a conditional offer of admission to the University of Cambridge from October 2018, I would like to draw your attention to the XXX Scholarship for which you may be eligible." (Which is a scholarship for applicants from some certain countries.)

Is there anyone who has heard from Cambridge? Are offers really made so early?

Hey, first of all, I'd suggest copying your message and pasting in the Cambridge LLM thread to avoid multiple posts on the forum on the same topic. It's much easier for those (including me) who have applied at Cambridge to follow up the discussion.

Regarding the question itself, I've got no idea mate why you received it... I haven't got anything and you made me curious. If you find something please let us know! And best of luck with the app :)

Just in case - which country are you from or which countries are eligible? Maybe it’s indeed a special scholarship which requires a separate application...

Thanks, Mombastic. It was my first time posting on this forum and I didn't realize there was a seperate thread for Cantab LLM. Would pay attention next time.

At this moment, I can only assume they want all the offer-holders who are potentially eligible for the scholarship to apply, which is funded by my home state government and has an approaching deadline. I was just a bit psyched to find some offers were already sent out.

Also good luck to u!

Yeah it is funded by my home state government.

I just can't see the point of telling every applicant about this and making us worry...

Hi, I received this e-mail, as well. I'm inclined to assume that it is more of a promotional e-mail for the scholarship, and has no bearing on the decision.

This email was sent to almost every candidate I know who would qualify for such a scholarship by virtue of their nationality. Cambridge does that to enable applicants to apply for all sources of funding for which they would be eligible.

It is not yet time for LLMs to hear back. You will probably hear back starting end of January to mid March.

Hey, I was an applicant in the 2017/2018 round of Cambridge LLM applications, and I am currently doing the LLM at Cambridge. Based on my year, the offers generally started going out from March onwards.

Dear all,

I haven't received such an email. Could you please provide some details? I'd much appreciate - thanks in advance :)

The email was specific to students who qualify for specific scholarships e.g those given by their own home states, by a bank etc.
