Why would you want to do that?

Maybe he wants to keep his options open.
It is a good question - what about accepting two separate unversities - say, Oxford and Cambridge or LSE and Durham? What are the rules/ethics of this? Obviously one would be rejected eventually, but there may be a number of reasons (funding etc) why one hasn't decided at the time they expect a decision to be made.
I'm just trying to promote discussion on this one.

Hi,
I can understand Joseph's point. On the other hand, there are many people on the waiting list and they would probably love to take up your place if you have no intention to enrol. This is just a consideration that one ought to bear in mind.
Having said that, I'm probably going to reject my offer from NYU because it is well beyond my budget and enrol at Cambridge instead.

I think it would be alright to accept offers into 2 different universities so long as you may be attending either one of them.
For instance, as the wirtter above said, it is possible that you would rather go to Uni 1 but have a better chance of getting fiunding to go to Uni 2. I think it is a very favourable dilema for you.

Not sure about accepting two offers from one Uni, maybe you should ask someone at the admissions office?
Certainly people accept more than one offer on a regular basis. It's prefereable for Universities if you are able to make a final choice, even if that means waiting to see all your offers before deciding, but sometimes that's not possible. Some Universities are requiring the equivalent of a deposit in order to secure your offer.
If you do decide to accept more than one offer, let all the institutions know as soon as you have decided where you are going.

Interesting point.
I note that my NYU enrolment sheet (which I will not be accepting, by the way) makes you sign beneath a declaration that you have withdrawn from all other universities to which you applied.
A bit rough.

yeah, and they don't allow you to apply to other unis in the gap year if u defer admission, nor enrol to any other LLM program.
Columbia, on the other hand, allows u to defer admission on the condition that u don't enrol on an LLM program in the US.
I wonder how NYU is gonna enforce this?
@ Joseph1: have u heard anything from ur college in Oxford?

No, not yet. Nor Cambridge.
It's driving me nuts.

Did you defer admission at Columbia on the off-chance that you feel like going there after the MJur?

and I thought I was the only one with such a dilema
Thank you vey much for shring your thoughts.
For the time being I decided not to accept two offers (keeping in mind that there are people who will be very happy getting an offer). However the desicion was not easy because it means that if I don not get funding from the one university I have already registered - I will be a slave of the bank.
By the way, I am a female...

Hello All,
I guess a lot of academically promising ppl would encounter this problem since multiple applications are rife (and smart, too) these days. The way I have decided to go has been based on what I perceive to be the unfair negative bias against ppl from my country, Nigeria. In all my applications, I have tried to be as honest and straight forward to the schools as possible.
Indeed multiple choices of admission arose for me as well. When a particular school told me that the Admissions Committee was yet to sit, I replied by stating that my primary concern for attending any of the universities where I had already been admitted would be funding. This latter school gave me a fellowship spannin a tuition waiver!
Nevertheless, in all the letters that I have written to them, I have maintained that funding is still my primary focus and my acceptance would be premised in that regard. So they realize the terms on which I've made my acceptance.
Schools which are fastidious about acceptances say so. If you can keep those terms, then do so. If you can't keep them then I don't think you should accept cos 'you'll keep a lot of ppl out while not goin in yourself'.
Where the school is silent about multiple acceptances (especially where they ask you to accept now, though they keep the luxury of determining scholarship applications in late June/July), then I think you have a prerogative of accepting as many openings as you get and makin a final choice (a.s.a.p.) based on what you think to be your primary consideration.
Otherwise, u might be shooting yourself in the foot, for no good reason.
Best of everything!

I agree with Hyugo.. I have always been open to schools about the fact that financial aid will be the main criteria for making a decision and each school is aware of my other offers and all of them have given me extension of time to make my decision and many of them have given me an early decision to accomodate a deadline with another school..
it is best to be open and honest...
