Hi,

I applied to both universities and was accepted by both (European & International Law aberdeen / Int. Commercial Law) Dundee.

I'm a little bit indecisive, which one is better to choose. Can anybody give me some advice ?

Aberdeen is undoubtedly more prestigious than Dundee. Needless to say, however, your choice should not be determined by the reputation or prestige of the institution alone. Location, the range of modules you can choose from, the programme structure and modes of evaluation, etc, should be taken into consideration.

Dundee definitely. I also applied to both schools to do an LLM in 2008/2009. I had heard Aberdeen was older and more prestigious obviously, so, initially I was quite biased in its favour. I was accepted by both schools. However, right from the admissions process during which I got quicker and more humane responses from the staff at Dundee School of Law, my heart started swaying towards Dundee. Eventually, I went to Dundee, and I can say it was a really wonderful experience. First, the module choices for the LLM in Int'l Commercial Law are quite diverse and interesting. I was particularly happy that I got to take a module in Corporate Governance as I had a huge interest there. The mode of teaching and assessment was such that it was easy for me to follow through and learn effectively, even though I had my first degree in another country. I think the secret to that was actually having smaller groups in our classes and seminars, and not a large lecture hall full of people, so, it was easy to ask questions and feel comfortable doing so. The lecturers were always willing and happy to explain stuff and they had such an open door policy, you could literally e mail them anytime or walk into their offices to chat about your studies and anything else that bothered you. Seminars were very stimulating as we were usually given materials to study before hand and I often looked foward to all the arguments and perspectives that would come up in class, and because we were in small groups, there was always enough time for everyone to have their say. The school also took us on a study trip to The Burn, some manor house on the way to Aberdeen where we stayed for 3 days, had loads of fun, got to know eachother better and had talks on writing our dissertation and improving our research skills generally. We also had nite outs as a group and met up for drinks a couple of times. All in all, it was a fulfilling year for me and my classmates. Dundee is a beautiful town, with very friendly people. It also has the sunniest weather in Scotland, another good reason I chose it, and I am glad I did!
