hehe ... i scored 300/300, which was amazing. i was really lucky, i think.
as for the toefl's relevance for your ll.m. apps: i don't think anybody cares how high you scored if only you got the magical 250 points.
and, no, i wasn't rejected by any school.
(i might also let you know my girlfriend's american. however, we started dating only after the toefl. she wanted to see my score first ;-)

Hi everybody, as i understood from these posts, i have a chance to get into HLS or Yale with 580 scores in PBToefl with condition of having strong background?
But the couple of days before i tried to recognize about minimal TOEFL scores and the majority of answers were negative,,,,,(look TOEFL for ivy-leaque )
So i will try to do more than 580 but i think this is my limit,
i will know that in fall, after TOEFL exams.....By the way who is planning to go to HLS in 2006?

Don't be too panic about your toefl score.
There are other things that law school pay more attention to.

Hi, everybody!
I am from Moscow, Russia and I will apply to an ivey-league for 06-07. What is my interest in this topic is that my Toefl score is 267 CBT (24, 28, 28, 5.5). As you can see, in Listening the score is only 24, which is 1 point below the minimum level required by most universities.
I would appreciate any comments on how critical this outstanding point is for my chances.
Many thanks.

This is quite concerning. Actually I did not have any idea regarding manner of TOEFL IBT and didn't really score much, tho. it's over 90/120. WOuld it really matter when I have an experience of abt. 10 yrs of litigation practice in different foras (India, New Delhi) and education has through out been in english.
Posted Feb 28, 2006 10:10
I didn't think TOEFL scores mattered as long as you got the minimum required? I have asked to be excused from taking it, so hopefully the school will comply with my request.

300 out of 300! That's really something. What country r u from?
Mind sharing with us what schools u have been admitted to?

Hi everybody! Do you think that a TOEFL score slightly lower than the minimum (244 instead of 250) could affect the chance of being admitted?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

Last Minute:
Unfortunately I strongly believe that the differents Universities don´t consider a lot the applications with a Toefl score lower than the one requested.
Actually, I have a very close friend with an acceptable cv that last year was not accepted to any of the Universities where he applied, probably because he had not the toefl score requested.
Anyway I wish I am wrong.

Thank you MAPA! I strongly appreciate your prompt answer, even if negative for me. However, I definitely agree with you: I wish you are wrong!! Anybody else has different experiences to report?
P.S. MAPA: what do you mean by saying "acceptable CV"?

Well, for me .... I got only 240. What a shame!!
But I applied only for Northwestern LLM/K not Ivy league.
(Bcos it was a lot far behind the deadline). Anyway, I got the acceptance already.
So I think that universities would consider other things together with TOEFL scores.

I just assume that the law school that say something in their website about English language condition (such as u may have to attend ESL course...if your toefl score is lower than 250...) may not care much about your toefl score.
Any comment?

Sorry for the delay in my answer. When I say "acceptable cv" I mean a guy who was in the mid part of the class of a top University in my country and with professional experience in one of the most important law firm.

Thanks MAPA. And, by the way, congratulations for your admissions in Georgetown and Duke!! Did yoy eventually choose where to go?
Posted Mar 11, 2006 23:20
I am really happy because of my admission in Georgetown and Duke, but so far I have not decided where I will finally go. I am slightly inclined to go to Georgetown mainly because the city where is located and the possibility of obtaining a job after the LLM.

Congratulations on your acceptances from Duke and Georgetown! These are first-rate schools, so i understand that the ultimate choice is not easy. However, if you want to work for sometime after your LL.M.; Georgetown may be the most fitting choice between the two, not simply because of its proximity to Washington, DC, but also because they possess a very good recruitment system that sympathetically looks after LL.Ms. Graduates, so i've been informed. Don't take my word for it, you have to do your own research!!!.

Thank you very much for your tip. Cetainly one of the most important factors that I will consider to make a decission will be the posibillity of obtaining a job.
