TOEFL NYU and Columbia

carloshhs

Hi guys, I hope someone can help me with this question. I have applied to NYU and Columbia LLM programs. However, the TOEFL scores I sent with my applications did not meet the minimum required by these schools (I scored just above 90).
Today I retook the exam and I think I did pretty well... Do you know if NYU and Columbia will accept my updated scores if I send them even when the deadline was december 15?? Did anyone have this same problem and could effectively submit a new score?
Thanks in advance!!

Columbia has an extended deadline which is now January 2,2014. It would be best if u call Lsac, and get ur score sent to them. It can be done, u just need to try

Hi carloshhs,

I wrote to the Columbia Office regarding the supplement of TOEFL score when the deadline was still December 17, and I got the response as below:

".... Any additional TOEFL scores that you submit to LSAC will be automatically transferred to us and included as a part of your application. The admissions committee considers all TOEFL scores submitted. Please note that you are required to submit results from all TOEFL exams that you have taken, and you must have taken the TOEFL once prior to the December 17 deadline or your application will not be complete. "

From my understanding, it looks like applicants may submit current scores for application first, have another TOEFL exam before the deadline (you already have), and supplement new scores through LSAC even though the scores will only be disclosed after the deadline. I also submitted my 102 scores and still wait for another scores now. You may confirm with Columbia Office too. They are nice!

You are welcome, carloshhs. You could also write to NYU. During this application season, I wrote many emails to different Schools and LSAC once questions raised and I could not find resolutions on official website. All of the Schools are willing to help. Wish you all the best for your application and Merry X'mas!

Hello everyone,

I am a French applicant for the LLM in Competition Innovation and Information law (NYU).
I took the TOEFL on December and I failed on the reading part (reading 20, listening 25 and writing and speaking 24 which make a 93).
Then I decided to take it again in Geneva on January 11 (no places in Paris before March). Hope I will do better in the reading...
I sent an email to NYU explaining the situation and my decision to take the TOEFL again.
Do you think the score I had (93) is completely unacceptable for NYU or I can still be accepted if I have 4 years of work experience for instance ?

Thx

Hi annaparis,

I've heard that NYU is very strict about the TOEFL requirement. I know just a few cases where people were admitted without meeting the minimum but just for one point or two.

I have just received an e-mail from NYU indicating that I may submit my updated TOEFL scores but they must be sent as soon as possible so that they can be evaluated with my application. Therefore, I would recommend you to prepare hard for your exam scheduled for January 11 and send your new scores as soon as you receive them.

Regards!
