Columbia & Toefl requirements

Hi,
I would like your advice about some issues regarding the toefl requirements. I got 100 points in Toefl IBT test (28R, 26L, 22E and 24W) and I am out of time to take the test again. As CLS is my first option, I would like to know if I have any chance to be accepted with that score. I have been in touch with a special research center in CLS whom told me that my profile matches with their current researchs projects and they really expect work with me. Also, I have academic and professional experience and I am into the best 10% of my class.

I look forward for your advise.

Thank you,

Hi, I have the same concern.
Any one having a TOEFL score below the line of CLS has been admitted?

Hello,
I have the same question. Do you know anyone who was accepted with 100 or less in CLS or any of the top ones (Harvard, Chicago, Penn, NYU,....)?
I have also academic and professional experience.
Thanks!!!

Well, I met a Professor at Columbia, and he told me that a low TOEFL score could be a real issue. As I met the requirements, I did not ask him to be more specific about the meaning of "low".

I guess that a score under 100 for Columbia would be a "low" score but it's just an hypothesis.

There are actually some students that have been accepted toi these schools without having the mentioned score. If you have a great background it might not be a issue.

But why not doing it again. There is plenty of time left and you can send them the updated sore at a later moment.

There are some exceptions (heard personally from interested party). I don't know how rare they are, but strong candidates may be waived a few TOEFL points.

in the FAQ of Columbia there's a special topic about low TOEFL scores. I guess you are in disadvantage but you never know if your other assets can get the job done. I'm also applying to Columbia.

Cheers!

Hi, I would suggest to retake the test and still apply with your present score. Last year I applied with a score of 99 TOEFL iBT, I retook the test in March and I was admitted with my second score of 103 iBT.

You were already admitted through early review this year?

I was admitted for the LL.M program of 2010/2011 and was given a deferral for the next year.
