Would you please share your thoughts, what would be better for getting into legal academia (preferably in legal theory):
to do an LLM and JD at Chicago, or
to do an LLM in Legal Theory and JD at NYU?

Chicago has a better JD program, whereas NYU has stronger legal theory faculty.

Third option is to go first to Oxford for MJur - and then take one of the first two option.
