Hello everyone!
I would like to apply for LLM in the USA or in the Netherlands for the year 2010/2011. By that time I will have 3 years of work experience as a corporate lawyer in an international bank. However, in my home country, in order to take the bar exam, you have to have 4 years of work experience (if you don't work for a law firm or in the court). Also, there is a possibility that my employer will not hold the job position for me in the bank when I get back. My concern is - if I leave my job in order to take the LLM in another country and get back after it, I won't be eligible to take the bar exam because of the lack of experience. What do you think - should I wait for another year to do LLM (and be eligible for the bar exam when I get back) or be brave and do it as I am planning to and then risk the possibility that I will not be able to find a job. Do the employers generally appreciate the LLM more than a bar exam, if I want to work for a bank or a big corporation? I am thinking that my value on the job market will be higher with the LLM. Will I be able to find a job for example, in the Netherlands after completing my LLM there so that I don't have to worry about job prospects in my home country? I'm interested in doing an LLM in international or european bussines law.
I know that this is a difficult and maybe too general question to answer, but I would like to hear and share different opinions.
p.s. I am in a hurry with the LLM because my job is killing me at the moment and I am just trying to gain as much experience as possible, before I start looking for a new one.
What would you do?
