UCLA ($) vs. NYU

MP17-18

Hello all! I would appreciate your thoughts about how to choose between NYU (international legal studies, no $) vs. UCLA (critical race studies/international and comparative law, with partial tuition waiver).

I think it depends on what you want to do with the degree. NYU has leaders in the field of international law and provides excellent networking opportunities plus it is pretty highly ranked. UCLA is a great school but I would go with NYU if you are looking to specialize in international law.

I don't think the education quality would have too much difference, in LA the weather is fantastic and living expense would be lower. As a student, I don't want to burden my family too much, so I would probably choose UCLA

Yeah, can't really help without more info. Do you want to take the CA or NY bar after? Work and live in NYC or LA after? Is your financial situation that big a factor? Etc.

Both great options, but I think for what you want to study NYU is probably the better option. Ranked 1st by US News for International Law, but aside from just rankings I know it has great connections to clinics and externship opportunities if you're interested in that. It seems to have a lot of global reach to me.

That being said, UCLA isn't bad at all, it has geographical advantages (especially if you like warm weather like me) and it has a great curriculum as well.

But for the recognition, reputation, and the opportunities of the courses itself I'd probably go with NYU,

Good Luck!

In my opinion it depends on the scholarship... I would not pay more than $10K to attend NYU instead of UCLA.

UCLA has a great faculty and also a good location.
