MIPLC vs TU Dresden

ColdAqua

Hello everyone,

I am an Asian student who has recently been accepted into both the MIPLC (unfortunately without the DAAD Scholarship) and TU Dresden. Understanding that MIPLC holds a higher ranking than TU Dresden, it's also clear that it comes with a steep price tag, not to mention the living costs in Munich which only add to the financial burden. I'm currently pondering over whether the investment in MIPLC is truly worth it in terms of future job opportunities both within and outside Europe, as well as its international standing. Considering that both programs are part of the Pan-European Seal Programme, this could potentially be a great pathway into the job market and gaining valuable experience. While I can manage the costs for MIPLC, it would mean a significant hit to my personal savings. I would deeply appreciate any thoughts or comments you might have on this matter.

Thank you so much for your help.

Hi,

I might be a bit biased, because I did the Dresden program (German track). But there were a lot of international students doing the international track.

It depends on what you want to do afterwards. For pure IP the Munich program is probably more prestigious and the job market around Munich is way bigger. A lot of Dresden alumnus went to Berlin or elsewhere (some went to Munich). If you are also interested in data (protection) law Dresden might be better suited. Furthermore the cost of living is way less in Dresden.

I think most available jobs as an international tech/IP related are in patents or data protection law. If you prefer trademarks or copyright it might be harder to find a job afterwards (probably also with the Munich program).

Maybe it would be an idea to contact some alumnis of the 2 programs on LinkedIn.
