LLM ADMISSION

Hi, I am advocate Nishith Sheth and writing you from Mumbai, India. I am 44 years of age and my passion for law was driven when I was 40.I was a sincere student and have graduated with merits from the Law School where I was awarded my LLB Degree. I am also holding a degree of a Company Secretary specializing in Corporate , Company and Securities Laws. During the course of my LLB , I was always desirous of doing LLM in Maritime Law as it is still an unexplored area of Law especially in India and I am also aware about the benefits and the prospects it carries after one has successfully become an Admiralty Lawyer.
I am offered an Unconditional Offer Letter from Swansea University in Wales which is supposedly considered as the top ranked Uni for LLM in Maritime Law. However, only recently I realized that there is a similar course offered by Gujarat Maritime Board situated in Ahmedabad a city in the state of Gujarat, India. Although the fees charged by the Gujarat University sums up to less than 10% of the total cost of the same course in the UK , my concern is where should I be pursing the said course. To be honest, my main concern is to be placed professionally after successful completion of the course. However , although i may be wrong , but i feel that foreign universities such as Swansea may not offer me guaranteed placements or opportunities for Internships which the University in Gujarat has guaranteed. Although, cost being a prime factor ,at the same time , I do not want to compromise on the quality of teaching. I need guidance as to me getting professionally placed after completing Masters from Swansea or my employability either in the UK or any part of the world where there is good demand for Maritime Lawyers. The admission team at Gujarat University suggested me to do it from India for the reasons that 1. I hold a LLB Degree which is recognized in India and 2. I am also a qualified CS , a degree which is again recognized only in India. Despite having 2 powerful professional degrees , they wont hold any values in the event i consider settling in any other country after my LLM from Swansea. It has been my dream to study abroad. The only thing that bothers me is about my employability. While Universities in UK do not offer any placements , Universities in India has campus placements which guarantees you a job. Awaiting your genuine suggestion/advise.

What kind of placement is offered? What is the quality of those on offer? One university can offer you a guaranteed placement at a "Coffee Shop" as a legal assistant for example! Would that help you? In the UK, you get a placement if your University degree is good, well-known in the market and you do the right things (prepare yourself)- that is what I (and many on my class) did at Swansea.

I hope that helps!
