So I am thinking of applying for an LLM but I don’t know if it’s a realistic idea or not. I wanted to apply for a PhD in law but by looking at the profile of other candidates, it seems highely unlikely. I already have an LLM from one of the top university in India and also LLB which is also from a very well renowned place. However, my first law degree marks are not that good and I have scored only 54% (in gpa it will be very low). Part of the reason is that the university doesn’t give high marks, and I am stuck with them. My LLM marks are pretty good from an Indian standard. I am also employed as an assistant professor at a well renowned university in India (1.5 years of work experience) and few publications. I think, with proper preparation, I may score well in IELTS and I can arrange letter of reference as well. i have been selected as a PHD scholar at the top law school in India but I am yet to accept that offer.
However considering my low GPA, do I have any chance in applying abroad at least in the top 25 law schools. Please give me some advice. Or suggestions with regards to law school that might be a good fit.

In general, law schools are aware that grades might not line up, especially with highly competitive schools where high grades are not typically rewarded. They may look at your class rank (ie top 10%, top 20%, etc.) or other factors. If you're concerned, check with the law schools you are interested in and ask them. If you attended well-known schools and did well compared to the rest of the class, they will generally take this into account.
