I got my bachelor degree of law in foreign country. In order to sit in NY bar exam, I delivered my Foreign Evaluation Form and supported documents to them. However, I was notified by New York State Board of Law Examiners that because I was late for turning in my document, they will not have time to review, therefore, I could not sit for the July bar exam. I was wondering does anyone has argued with them before under same situation? Thank you.

The following is the email from NY bar.

he problem with your LL.M. form has been rectified. This being said, we note that you did not complete the Boards online Foreign Evaluation Form until January 24, 2013 and did not send in all foreign documents for review until April 25, 2013. Thus, your foreign documents have NOT been reviewed, and at this point, will not be reviewed in time for the July 2013 exam.

All applicants are clearly warned, on the Boards website, prior to completing the online foreign evaluation and prior to applying for any given bar examination, about the Boards deadlines for review of foreign documents. You also received an email upon applying the July 2013 examination which stated, in relevant part:

4. FIRST TIME FOREIGN-EDUCATED APPLICANTS REQUIRING AN LL.M. TO QUALIFY

All first-time foreign applicants who require an LL.M. to qualify are required to have their law school submit a verified LL.M. Certificate of Attendance Form and a final, official transcript to the Board by June 15th for a July exam or February 1st for a February exam. NOTE: If you have not yet submitted all required foreign documentation and/or received an advance determination on your eligibility to sit for the bar examination, there is no guarantee that the Board will review and approve your foreign credentials in time to sit for the current exam, even if you timely submit the LL.M. Certificate of Attendance Form and official transcript.
