Where have you applied?

kris1984

Hey,

I sent out a few applications: two MA's and an LLM

So far I have been accepted at Leiden in the MA in European Union Studies and the LLM in Public International Law (regular, not the Advanced)

I also applied to UvA (Amsterdam) in EU Studies (another MA) -- which was a waste of an application fee considering I got into Leiden.

So, where have you applied? Gotten in? etc...

So, by the zero replies I take it no one has applied anywhere?

Woohoo! I have the whole LL.M. market to myself then!

Hi kris,

you seem to know a lot about Leiden's LLM. Have you been accepted to the advanced LLM? Do you know where the difference between the two is? I'd really appreciate your help!

Hey,

Well, they aren't really the same thing at all. The LL.M. (Adv.) is a professional programme e.g. from people in mid-career wishing to specialize further in a given area of law. Also notable is that it does not have a "home fee", so EU students pay the full fee just like their international colleagues (around 13.000euro).

The LL.M. (regular) is for students and young professionals. It is a standard LL.M. aimed at students who do not have much experience in International Law, but who wish to specialize in it later on. As such, classes are aimed more at building a foundation rather than adding to it (like in the LL.M. (adv.). This course does have a "home fee", so EU students pay about 1.500euro (and 13.000euro for international students)

Both programmes are partly taught in The Hague. I am not sure of the split for the Advanced, but for the regular it is about 50% in Leiden and 50% in The Hague (which is about 10 minutes from Leiden by train).

Hope that helps!

Chris
