MIPLC 2012 -2013

I am in Munich right now looking for a house and I must say it is far from easy to find something that isn't either wildly expensive or in terrible conditions. Has anyone arranged their stay yet?

Hi again gyus,

I was in Munich last week. It's really hard to find a room there but I think I'm good to go. However, a friend of mine living there is now moving to a new app. and now she has a free room. I gave her the idea that here somebody would be interested. Below is a short description of the room. I could add that there's a mattress in the room. The place is in a really nice area and the distance to MIPLC is not more than 20 min. walking (I have personal experience).
So here's the room:

"Hi folks,
I am moving out of my shared apartment after almost two years living there (three year living in the neighborhood) and would like to offer you the great opportunity to live central in the most popular and alternative quarter of Munich. Its the perfect place in Munich for young people looking to discover and experience the city life! The place offers endless possibilities for entertainment and practicing your hobbies the apartment house is located less than 50m away from the river Isar, which gives you the chance to go jogging, to ride a bike, to enjoy the sun with a bottle of beer, and even to grill. Everything you need is very close supermarkets, pharmacy, bakery (open even on Sunday which is something unusual for Germany), lots of bars and restaurants around, excellent shopping possibilities. Marienplatz (the heart of Munich) is 15 minutes walking from the apartment and the famous Oktoberfest only 3 U-Bahn stations away! Besides, you have excellent public transport connections (bus, tram and U-Bahn), although you wouldnt really need them living so central! The apartment is fully furnished and quite big (around 100 square meters) and is shared with two German guys (excellent way to get into German culture and language!). Both of them speak fluent English so no worries about it! The kitchen has everything you need to cook including plates, glasses, cutlery and spices! There is also a washing machine, a dish washer, two fridges and an oven. The living room has a big couch and a TV. Each one of the flatmates has his/her own room (so three bedrooms in total) and the bathroom, the kitchen and the living room are shared. My room is about 18 square meters big and faces the backyard so you would not hear any street noise. The rent is 420 per month, including rent for the room, all utilities (water, electricity, etc.) and Internet access. If you would be interested in having my room for a month and a half (starting mid August until end of September), please shoot me an email at georgetta.kostova@gmail.com. The total rent would be 630 in this case. In case you get along very well with the flatmates, you will have the option to live there on a permanent basis as they will be searching for a flatmate end of September. From my experience, I would say thats an excellent opportunity to experience living with Germans and sharing an apartment and see whether thats for you.
Look forward to hearing from you!

Regretfully I have no images. Contact Georgetta, she maybe has.
Regarding the distance - Yes it is. You could check it on the Google Maps. The address is Ohlmuellerstrasse 11.

Hello Friendz,
Nice to see this group.
Actually yesterday I hav received mail from MIPLC regarding scholarship for 2013-14 batch.
I got waiver of 13,000 Euro.
So need to arrange 13,000 Euro more plus accomodation and living expenses, Which is quite big amount for me.
Now i need to take loan.
I would like to know, whether this is really worth investing?
As you all are experienced guys please let me know.
Thanks in Advance.

Dear Jasmine,

I am part of this year's class and I must say that this program has far exceeded my expectations (which were already very high). When you meet people from other LLM in IP you'll see the difference. The teachers are the best you can get from all around the world. I strongly recommend this.

Many thanks for the reply, NunoSS.
But still am finding it hard to arrange the amount.
Do suggest any other option for scholarship.
Can we work during the course work?
And what will be a monthly expense?

Does your government provide scholarships?

It is possible but very, very difficult to find time to work during the course.

The biggest expense will be housing (it is really hard to find acommodation at a reasonable price), so expect something around 500-600. Food (if bought at supermarkets) and transportation are reasonable, you can add 250-300 for all other expenses and be perfectly fine.

Hope this helps.

I would suggest to not even entertain any thoughts of working during your programme here. Not advisable at all. It is a very intense course. What you need to answer for yourself is where you want to be after the year long study. You have to be very clear on that and then take a call. The decision to take the risk of 13000 euros + living expenses stems from there. Apart from that the programme is brilliant, totally worth it if you are looking for substantial education in the IP field. The professors are leading figures in this field.

Thanks Nuno. Thanks Abhay.
Your comments are really helpful.
Sorry if am bothering you too much but my main concern is am non-lawyer student. I do not hold basic law degree. i have completed masters in Science.
Although I have experience in IP field, few of my friends suggested that I may not get reward of investment when I will be back in India.
What you think?
kindly suggest.

Are you a registered patent agent? Do not worry about the lack of legal education. There are usually quite a few students who have no legal background when they come here. As for jobs later, it depends on what kind of scientific background you have. Do you have any prior work experience? What you should do is start making up a list of places that you might be eligible to work for after the LLM. Having said that, in India you may not end up with a salary that would be comparable to the money spent in Munich. That is a risk you will be taking. Getting a job in Europe is also not easy. Especially in Munich, if you do not know German. I would suggest that you start taking classes in German right away if you are serious about coming here.
