master 1 or master 2 @ Sorbonne

Azerty

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to apply for a master (law or international relations) at Sorbonne in Paris for next year, but don't know whether to choose a master 1 or master 2 (professionnel) program. What's the difference? Would I be able to enroll in either of the two with my Dutch LLB? Or would I need first to finish my LLM before I will get admitted into a master 2?

Thanks for your answers!

master 1 is LLM whereas master 2 is LLM advanced,
You need to have a LLM before applying for Master 2

Ok, thanks. But now I'm confused. Sorbonne told me that whether I can enroll in a master 2 depends on the amount of years that I studied. So not on whether I have my LLM.. Maybe that is just their way of dealing with foreign students with foreign degrees?

well it should be 4 completed years of study then (for a Master 2)
good luck

ps:I think that doing a Master 2 will be more interesting rather than Master 1 but the enrolling is hardest !

I also think a master 2 will be much more interesting, in fact I already found one that sounds really great.

Actually I have been studying for almost four years, or 4,5 even if I include my semester abroad. I'm almost done with my LLM too but I just won't have time to completely finish it before going to Paris cause I'm doing an internship this summer.

Hello - in your search for a good French Masters in International Relations did what did you find? Does anyone know what are the best Universities that do this Masters in France? How much are the courses? I understand the Sorbonne does the MA for approx. 18,000 euro - is this correct? Thank you!

18.000?! That's ridiculous. I understood that Sorbonne tuition is about 250 a year. But this might be different depending on where you're from (e.g. it's often more expensive for students from outside the EU) or which program you choose.

I after all didn't go for Sorbonne at all, but for Sciences Po, which is a different kind of institution alltogether with an excellent reputation for international affairs.

Yes I had heard it was one of the best places actually. Whats the title of your masters? Is it International Relations (Master Affaires européennes)? I am interested in this course - I'd love to hear a little bit about it - how much of the course is in French? How much are the fees (I am Irish)? My primary degree was in Business and French, do you think it will be an issue that my degree was not politics or international relations? Is there work experience required? What is your assessment of the course so far? Many thanks!
