LLM programs in Paris (either Assas or Sorbonne I)

rg3

Hi, I'm currently working on applications for an LLM in Paris and am considering both the Assas and the Sorbonne - Paris I programs (I'm favoring the Assas one though). I am having trouble finding information from former students of the programs though and have some questions:

Getting Accepted: I graduated from a top 5 US law school and have been working at a large international law firm in NY for 2.5 years. I also studied abroad in Paris during college and worked at my law firm's Paris office for a bit when I was a summer associate. I consider myself somewhere in between highly proficient and fluent in French. My speaking is more fluent, but for translating and writing I sometimes need to use a dictionary. Do I have a good chance of getting accepted even though I'm not 100% fluent and my grades are not amazing (around 3.3 GPA)? What criteria is used in determining acceptance and how helpful is work experience?

Application: What do these schools look for in the letter of motivation, and how long should this letter usually be? Was there an interview for Assas or Sorbonne I, and if so, what sort of questions were asked?

Courses: How difficult/intense were they and did you feel that you learned a ton from them? What was your usual weekly class schedule like?

Career: How easy was it for you to find a job after the program? I think I will be able to come back to my current law firm after the program, but just in case, I'd like to know how hard/easy it was for LLM graduates to find jobs and in what areas.

Student Life: Did most LLM students hang out together and make friends with each other, or did most students keep to themselves?

Housing: What type of housing do most of the LLM students use, and how much was the rent, approximately?

Finances: Do any of the LLM students do part-time work during the school year to make money? I'm thinking about doing that but am not sure if the class schedule is flexible enough for it and how hard it is for LLM students to find part-time jobs.

Tuition: Any idea why there is such a disparity b/w the tuition for Assas and Sorbonne I? Does the Assas tuition include health insurance as well (I know the Sorbonne I does).

Language: What French language proficiency do most of the LLM students have?

If any present or former LLM students can answer any or all of these questions, I'd be very grateful. Thanks so much!

Hey, if you are still thinking of applying, you better move fast because the last date is 15th March for Paris 2. Luckily for you, ASSAS accepts foreign degrees in English. Get your "dossier d'inscription" from the Univ. Everything is explained in the form itself. I don't know whether the fact that you are not residing in Paris gives you a different deadline or not but in either case, you should hurry if you want to apply this year.

You will need a level C1 ( DALF/DELF) in French for entrance but you have time till August to produce a certificate for that.

The motivation letter needs to specify why you are interested in a masters, why specifically at Paris2 etc. etc.
Thats all I know. Good luck!
