hi dear,
i am doing llm in european IP law and luckily the onlyone from Pakistan and there is none from india as well, and i think there is better scope for job in IP field as companies are employing in house lawyers for their IPs. but onething should be kept in mind that master degree is only a specialization in perticular field and native law graduates are preffered by the companies in the whole of the europe because of basic law degree from home country and of native language.

hi jai,
your 3 years law degree is normally sufficient and if you have experience then it is good enough, there are five LLM programms at Stockholm University but IP is the most favourite one for all the europeans as my session is very much international, there are 42 students from 21 countries so the competition is very tough and therefore solid proof of experience is suggested. shcholarships are not available and i think in education free country, we need no scholarships, living expences are not very high specially for us, the Pakistanis and Indians, we can live here for only 3000SEK/MONTH, beside the official requirement which is 63000SEK/month.

Hi
best LL.M,
Thanks for a informative reply. I would also like to know about the job market at Stockholm for the foreign students. Whether it is possible to get interships or part-time jobs.

hi jai
there are no jobs in sweden, all the students are bringing the money from there home country, even there are no odd jobs so my advice is that dont even think to cover your expences here by doing any job. the reason is the population, only 9 million, unlike our countries where one city's population is more than this, so bring at least 35000 swedish kronas with you.
bye

Hi best LL.M,
Thanx, for a clear picture. I hav some more query whether university of Stockholm hav such a repo in the international level
or it is better to do LL.M from another university (U.S. or U.K or Aus).
How is the environment of study, how the professors co-operate the students? How is the libraray?
One another question whether the LL.M graduates are eligible to appear at the bar in Sweden? and whether the companies or law firms are interested in taking the foreign nationals?
Thanx again,
regards,
jai

Don't ever think that anybody will be able to live in Stockholm for 3000 or even 4000 Cronas... this is not enough even for a single room apartment. you need at least 7500 SEk to live fairly.
Stockholm University itself is just perfect. Professors are more thn ahppy to cooperate. Uni has its huge library full with everything one may need.
At Stock Uni. I'd especially I'd recommend LLM in International Commercial Arbitration. This is the only Arbitration LLM in the world. I graduated from ICA LLM last year and now I'm very busy doing international arbitration at all levels.
It is of course difficult to find a job in Sthlm, but it's not entirely impossible. My several classmates were working part-time at some top Swedish law firms. It's easier for US/Canada/UK lawyers to find this kind of part time job in Stlhm law firms, but if you are say from Russia, Pakistan, India, Turkey or something like that, you shouldnt even dream to find a legal (or even paralegal) job in Sthlm.
Finally, LLM in Sweden is not sufficient to go through bar. you need Swedish Law degree (LLM is not a degree in Sweden) in order to pass it.

Dear Raxy,
Thank you for your very interesting feedback regarding Stockholm. As you point out, the ICA LLM is the only worldwide. Therefore, I would be most grateful if you could answer the following questions, as the Juridcum Website does regrettably not provide much information:
a) how big is your class ?
b) how many lectures a week do you have ?
c) where are your class mates from (US, EU, Asia, etc.) ?
d) is there a lot of student life / is it easy to meet people ?
e) how deep does the course go into Arbitration Law ?
f) how fierce was competition to get admitted ?
g) from a merely legal perspective, how valuable is the course in your opinion ?
Thank you very much for answering all these questions. As mentioned, I really depend on your information as an insider.
Cheers and all the best for your studies!

Raxy,
I just realised you did your LLM in ICA last year. I thus meant to ask how big your class WAS, etc.
Last 2 questions: Has the LLM turned out to be very advantageous for the practical work your doing now? And how do law firms consider/rate the LLM in ICA from SU?
I would like to specialise in Arbitration Law in order to work in that area later on, but am hesitant as to going to the UK or Stockholm. What do you think?

Swedish llm from SU is good enough, especially in arb field for working outside Sweden

Ok, I'll try to answer all you questions !!!
I am graduate of the first 2003-2004 LLM in ICA at SU...
1. My class was 21
2. our lectures were 2 or 3 a week (sometimes 4) I think you can find schedule on juridicum's site...
3. My classmates were from US, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Brasil, Canada, China and Estonia.
4. Student life is interesting... I guess its fun to be a student in Stockholm, but Swedes themselves are not very sociable people... HOwever, it totally depands on you... I'm very sociable person, so had no problems with student life.. I had really great time in Sthlm.
5. Course goes into Arbitration law very deep.. in the beginning of the course you may think that you are getting nothing from it.. you may think that it's too easy.. you may think that professors do not know anything about what they are telling you... but, if you study what they tell you, at the end of the day you'll find that you know everything one may know in Arbitration law.
6. I guess because it was the first year of the programme the competition was 5 or 6 people for one place... I'm not sure though.. I still keep in touch with my professors, I've heard this year the competition was really high!!
7. As for me, the course gave me the most valuable knowledge in my life... My sallery grew at least 4 times after I got ICA LLM.. currently I'm really busy with doing international arbitration... So, for me the course is really valuable...!!!
8. England or Sweden? I dont; know... I have never studied in England so I can't compare, but I know that Engliush legal aducation is good, but Swedish is not bad too.. Espacially SU's ICA program

Thank you very much, Raxy, for answering all these questions. I very much appreciate your feedback, since there is not much information available concerning the Masters in ICAL at SU, the course having been taught for only two years so far.
I wish the very best for you future career! Thanks again! M
