ILF - Institute for Law and Finance

llmsought

I am writing to seek your valued advise on the suitability of the LLM Finance given my unique circumstances. I would be honoured to hear from the alumni of the program (LLM Finance at Goethe Universitat Frankfurt), current students and practising Finance lawyers. This does not preclude any one else from expressing their views.

I am an economics major graduate with over 10 years commercial banking exeperience in various functions such project finace, corporate finance  and relationship management. I wish to rejuvenate my career and give it a new but related direction as a Finance lawyer (especially project finance and investment banking law- securities lawyer). Towards this end, I am currently enrolled at a Two -year LLB  at a UK based reputable University. I am in first year.

I recently lost my job. With a view of getting back into the labour market as soon as possible, I am contemplating enrolling in the ILF program. To help me decide  the viability of this planned investment, please respond to the  following questions:

If you are an alumni of the program, to what extent did the reputation of the program help you getting your current job?I am NOT an EU  citizen nor do I speak German, does this limit chances of obtaining a job in the EU labour ?Do any investment banks recruit directly from the campus?Given I am NOT a lawyer in any jurisdiction (I hope to complete my on going LLB program while working), what is the possibility of getting a job internationally especially in the Middle East? For now, I am willing to get a finance job as I complete my LLB.Do you think I should first complete the LLB and then seek admission in US brand name LLM Finance program such as Columbia and Georgetown? Any other advise?

Thanks for your valued comments.
