Hi. I wanted to know whether one needs to be French national to practise as lawyer (avocat) in France. Is nationality a must?
Thanx

Sorry, a few precisions: I am also not European. Can I still dream of practising in France?
Thanks. Priyanka.
Thanks. Priyanka.

Hi. Thanx for your post.
However, I am still not convinced. Please read on to see why.
This is an extract which can be retrieved from the website of the "Barreau de Paris": http://www.avocatparis.org/voies_acces/voies2.aspx
It clearly says that one needs to be either French or European to be eligible to practise as an avocat. However, what puzzles me is the phrase "en principle", which could lead to believe that in practice such is not the case.
Now, if you could help me with this, I wil be grateful. Please support you answers with an official document or website if possible.
Thanx alot.
Priyanka

Sorry, I don't know if there are exceptions from the requirement of "être français ou ressortissant d'un état membre de l'union européenne". I just know that the French legal market is open to other Europeans, but that's all.
