hi guys, I need your URGENT help :)) I got a scholarship both from CEU - International Business Law, and UvA (MTEC) - European Law, and now I am in big trouble to choose. Honestly, the IBL sounds more interesting to me, on the other hand - Amstedam is definately a place to see, and i don't know about the program. What do you think?
European Law in Amsterdam or International Business Law in CEU

Choose UvA, the intl law programme is much better and there is also the Intl. Law Clinic.By the way, many congratulations, I didn't get an Mtec scholarship.
Cheers!

Congratulations!
If i were you I would definitely choose Budapest. It is a great town and has one of the best LL.M. programmes in Europe which is well known among employers from this field.Quality of Uva is not very good but you can still spend some time there as a tourist and not as a student.

hei Kassia, you killed me with that answer :)) I was almost made up my mind for Amsterdam, could you elaborate a bit more on why you think so?

kassia is right . CEU (int'l business law program) is definitely much more prestigious LLM program than Amsterdam. in fact, it is one of the best in Europe.

How come CEU is not mentioned in the top 100 European universities: http://ed.sjtu.edu.cn/rank/2005/ARWU2005_TopEuro.htm ? UvA is ranked 36-56.

yes, about the ranking you are right, and here - the "Most popular LLM Programs" - UvA is 18-19 and CEU is ranked 180

I was writing about the quality of LL.M. programmes, not about university with all the faculties in general. From this point of view Budapest has a better reputation among jurists and employers.

Guys, sorry 4 this infrigment. But I wonna point out that it is rather silly to quote here "European top" rankings as soon as there are certain criteria when making those "lists of universities". According to them, 4 example, such world-known and highly-prestigiuos institutions of higher education as College of Europe (Bruges, Belgium) or European University Institute (Florence, Italy) are not in the top 100 though it is absolutely evident that they are within top 10 in the minds of European scholars...The reason is commonpace: they propose exclusively post-graduate programes. I guess Central European University has some similar problem otherwise it should be somehere within top 20-30. Hence, any speculations on this issue seem a bit childish.
PS i was admitted to both ASL & College of Europe. And finally chose the latter. A friend of mine graduated from LL.M. programe in Business in Budapest and seems to be quite satisfied (if u'd like i could ask for his e-mail 4 u). One of the most intelligent professors of Public International Law in my home country also graduated from CEU (LL.M. in International Law) and I could only envy the knowledge of that lady.

nie_farmal thank you very much for this reply - it was really helpful. Thank you all for the discussion, and useful hints. However, I think I have made up my mind and it is in favor of UvA - mostly because of the scholarship. The MTEC is very generous and I really have nothing to take care of, whereas for the CEU I have to cover most of the expenses myself. Also because of the city - I am really interested what Amsterdam is like, and I would love to spend a year there. Also, I examined very caferully the curriculum of the International Business Program - too much European law, and only several courses in business. Most them I have already covered in Bulgaria, and from practice - I work for Ernst & Young for 6 years already. So....
But thanks again - I will write you about my impressions from Amsteram

I sincerely wish u the best of GOOD LUCK in Amsterdam! I understand u perfectly in this respect. For me it was an extremely complicated decision to refuse the MTEC scholarship and, frankly speaking, I am much more optimistic towards the curriculum they propose, soo..Vsichko hubavo! . Maybe we could exchange our impressions after a year:) Shte se vidime!
