I found an interesting programme offer by this Academy. Is a Master of Advanced international Studies. I would like to know about it's reputation, the quality of the programme, job prospetcs, etc. Anyone applying there? Thanks in advanced.
Best regards.

The program does not start until next September, so the course has no reputation at all. Check back in May 2009 when the first group of candidates are finishing up the Masters. I've been looking at it as well, but I am a bit iffy on doing a new untested program. Vienna has a very good reputation. It is the best school in Austria, and in the top 5 between Austria and Germany.

Hi Lofty!! thaks for your response. Well, I don't know if i'm right but I have understood that the Academy is offering this programme since 1999 as a one year programme with the prerequisite of a year diploma, and since 2007-2008 a two year programme. I agree with you, but maybe there are people here who are in the programme 2007-2008, so they could tell us if the programme worths. Is anyone studying in Vienna?

Are you talking about this program? http://www.llm-guide.com/university/693/universitaet-wien-university-of-vienna-international-legal-studies
If you are, then it is a new Masters. I thought it was starting in September 2008, but according to the first line on the website listed below, it commenced in September 2007.

As far as I know, it is a one year LLM in International Legal Studies. That's the way it's advertised.
It does look interesting, but I'm weary of trying new things. I'd rather do a tried and tested Masters. Not rightly sure how a Masters in International Legal Studies would help me as a Barrister in Ireland anyway!
There may be a few people popping up that have just finished it with info about it over the next few weeks or months. So, keep your ear to the ground.

Hello Lofty!! Well, the programme that I'm talking about you could find it here http://www.da-vienna.ac.at/ViewPage.asp?Site=DAVIENNA&Lang=202
I'm more interested in this one since it's core courses consist in history, diplomacy, law, economics and politics.

Well, I can honestly say I have never heard of the place. I never trust a college that doesn't tell you on their main page who the governing/awarding body of their degrees are, and I can't find anything about who recognises them on their site.
However, a quick Google and I found a few reputable sites saying the place is a good institution. Honestly though, I know nothing about the course and the place, so I'm not going to be much help.
The fact that it isn't listed on LLM-Guide is probably the reason there's nobody to answer your questions about the pace. Try dropping the moderators an email asking them to add the institution and its programs.

I'm working in chambers and am contemplating in doing a postgraduate degree in Vienna. As a lawyer I'm interested in the LL.M. in International Legal Studies at the University of Vienna, but have heard so many people talk about the Diplomatic Academy Programme. From the website I realise that some of the University staff also teaches there.
What is the difference between the Diplomatic Academy and the English speaking LL.M. Programme in International Legal Studies at Vienna's Law School?

Hillary, I'm at the Diplomatic Academy and have a LLB. Although I'm trying to keep an option for becoming a diplomate in my country, I have to warn you that most of the students at the Diplomatic Academy are NOT lawyers. I know that professors of the Vienna Law School are teaching here, but never at the level they expect from students at the Vienna Law School. We only hear general things about international economic law , and nothing about investment arbitration as the Diplomatic students would not understand it. The real ACE at the Universität Wien is arbitration and dispute settlement (apart from Human Rights). My friend speaks German and told me about the fantastic lectures and seminars he participated in: As the postgraduate LLM is in English, take advantage of the professors! Vienna is a great city. The LLM Program is cheaper than in the USA. Sometimes I think that I should rather only enjoy one year atthe Academy and rather do a 1 year full time course at the Vienna Law School. Life is short, and I'd love to hear Prof Weiss, formerly director of Amsterdam Law School, talk about his experiences there and in Geneva (WTO). He talks so well, seminars are great and challenging what my friend told me.

Hello to all of you! Right now I am still studying for my bachelor degree, but I am quite interested in the newest programme: Master of Science in Environmental Technology and International Affairs. Sariv, as long as you study in the Academy, I would like to ask you are there any opportunities for a scholarship and what is the percentage of students receiving financial aid? And if so, do you know on what basis are the scholarships given? Any information on the subject would be useful. Thank you in advance
